UPDATE 2/11/11: The decision was delayed until Friday because of a donor audit. I don’t know exactly what that means (I know what a donor is and I know what an audit is, I just don’t know who is doing the auditing of the donors).

There are reports floating around that Cal has “reinstated” the 5 cut sports but there is no official announcement at this time. If in fact this is true, you can keep abreast of the situation at the Save Cal Baseball facebook page and can expect media reports throughout the day.
It is an interesting thing to consider that if the Cal alumni are powerful and rich enough to in fact bring back these sports by endowing them, then we certainly get an idea of just how influential all major college alumni/donors are across the nation. It is no wonder that so many programs have such a hard time staying out of trouble with the NCAA because how can they really say “no” to such rich and powerful alumni that are allowing all the stadiums to get built, allowing the coaches (football and basketball in particular but not exclusively) to drive such nice cars and wear great suits, etc.
